Who Are Short-Term Visiting Students?
Visiting international students study at Hawaiʻi Pacific University for one or two semesters without pursuing a degree at HPU. They typically come from universities outside the U.S. and may return to their home university or continue their studies elsewhere after completing their time at HPU.
IMPORTANT: HPU Visiting Students are NOT J-1 Exchange Visitors/Students
Visiting Students:
- Do not participate in an official J-1 exchange program or exchange agreement
- Are admitted to HPU as F-1 students
- Receive a Form I-20 and an F-1 Academic Student Visa
- Study at HPU as non-degree students
- Remain enrolled at their home university while temporarily studying at HPU, or attend HPU independently as a freemover (a student studying abroad outside a formal university program)
F-1 Students
Experience HPU for 1-2 semesters through our Visiting Student Program.
F-1 students are non-immigrants pursuing a full course of study at a U.S. academic institution authorized by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
