Two HPU School of Nursing faculty members recently represented the University at the 2nd Global Summit on Nursing and Midwifery, held in Boston on May 8-9. HPU Assistant Professor and Simulation Specialist in Obstetrics Joy Bliss, Ph.D., RN, served as a keynote speaker with her presentation titled, "Empowering Nursing Students through Gaumard Obstetrical Simulations: An Analysis of Enhancing Self-Confidence and Satisfaction in Clinical Education."

In her talk, Bliss utilized the National League for Nursing's Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Learning Scale to assess the perceptions of nursing students participating in clinical Obstetrics, where they engaged with the Gaumard-Victoria model for normal delivery simulations and Baby Hal for APGAR score assessments. Her findings provide actionable guidance for enhancing simulation-based education, offering educators valuable insights to create more effective and confidence-building learning environments for students.

HPU Professor and Director of the Transcultural Nursing Center Patricia Burrell, Ph.D., APRN, APMHCNS-BC, CNE, presented "The Nursing Interactive Field: Strengthening the Nurse-Patient Relationship Capacity with BSN Students." Burrell focused on the concept of "inter-brain synchrony" (Dumas, 2010) as the foundation for social competency and empathy in nursing. She explored the impact of social media and remote communication on this synchrony, which is essential for nurses to convey empathy and care. Burrell shared how HPU's Therapeutic Communication curriculum equips BSN students with the necessary skills to improve their interactions with patients, enhancing their confidence in delivering compassionate care.

Both presentations highlighted HPU's commitment to advancing nursing education and the development of students' clinical competencies and interpersonal skills.
