HPU Celebrates Student Achievement Online: All Are Invited
Top student talent will be on display at Hawai’i Pacific University’s 8th Annual Capstone Symposium, slated for Thursday, April 23, starting at 1 p.m., HST. An array of student research, project, creative work, and internship/practicum experience will be presented this year in an online setting, open to campus and the public alike.
The presentations represent the culmination of the HPU experience: real-world, hands-on, and interdisciplinary applications of knowledge, aimed at solving problems and serving the community.
“From what we have seen in this year's abstract proposals, we think the audience will be amazed by our students’ work, showcasing creativity, innovation, and most of all academic achievement,” said Capstone Symposium sub-committee chair and Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Hanh Nguyen, Ph.D. “We are most impressed by students' engagement with timely and relevant topics, from compassion fatigue in healthcare providers to computer applications or marketing campaigns to solve urgent problems in local businesses, from the use of artificial intelligence in second language learning to environmental factors that damage the coral reefs, and from the expressions of native Hawaiian identity in Waiʻanae to Oahu landscapes.”
"Our students' capstone work this year also reaches far and wide, geographically, beyond Hawaii. They examine social, historical, political, education, and health issues in India, Jordan, England, China, mainland US, Norway, and Vietnam," Nguyen revealed.
This year’s presentations will be held online on April 23 in three sessions: 1-2:30 p.m., 2:30-4 p.m., and 4-5:30 p.m., HST, with a 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m., HST, culminating awards ceremony including remarks by HPU’s President and Provost.
