On-Campus Employment

On-Campus

F-1 and J-1 students are eligible to work on-campus while attending classes for a limited amount of hours per week. An on-campus position refers to jobs within an HPU department and not with third party businesses that operate in proximity to the University. Unlike other forms of employment as an F-1 or J-1 student, the position you hold on campus does not need to be related to your academic field of study.

No special work permission is needed from OISS to begin working in an eligible on-campus position, though you must maintain legal F-1 or J-1 status while engaging in on-campus employment. In order for F-1 or J-1 students to work and get paid, they must obtain a Social Security Number (SSN) in accordance with on-campus employment requirements. On-campus employment authorization is only available to active students. This means that students who have graduated are no longer authorized to work on campus without applying for OPT work authorization (F-1) or Academic Training (J-1).

J-1 STUDENTS MUST HAVE AUTHORIZATION ON THEIR DS-2019 FOR ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYMent

Please note: positions listed as "Federal work study (fws)" are not available to international students
