HPU Emeritus Professor of History and former NEH-supported Endowed Chair in World History, Dr. Marc Jason Gilbert, met with Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, Consul General of India to the United States, from January 15-17, 2025. At a reception, he gave a brief talk on budding relations between India and Hawaiʻi. It was then determined that India will generously support the annual Yoga Day celebrations at the Bandstand in Kapiolani Park, to be held this year on June 22, 2025. Dr. Gilbert is pictured standing between Dr. Reddy and Dr. Raj Kumar (right), founder of the Honolulu-based Gandhi International Institute for Peace, in which Dr. Gilbert is an active member. They are laying wreaths on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Waikiki. Dr. Reddy hopes to visit HPU when he returns in June for the Yoga Day celebration.
