The HPU UN team of Sandra Garcia (UN Club Treasurer/MA SUST), Olivia Elmore (BA International Studies), River Feuling (BA Political Science), Makenna Cooley (BA International Studies), Keith Gray (MA DMS), Chrystie Brandt (MA SUST), and their faculty advisor Serge A. Marek, Ph.D. (Department of History, Humanities, and International Studies faculty) ventured to Japan at the end of the Fall semester to participate in the 2022 National Model UN Japan Conference. The HPU delegation, representing Greece, received the Honorable Mention Delegation Award.

“The HPU Model UN team had a fantastic experience at the NMUN conference in Kobe, Japan. With five out of the six team members having zero Model UN experience, our expectations were to participate and learn,” Marek said. “However, with a lot of effort and dedication, this group managed to win our first-ever international MUN conference award! I am so proud of them for this achievement.”

When not in conference, the team experienced two days of cultural tours to memorials, temples, and shrines and spent evenings exploring beautiful Kobe and sampling its outstanding cuisine.

“As is always the case with Japan, team members left already planning their return trip,” Marek added.
