World-renowned drummer and percussionist, 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Chris "Whipper" Layton will be talking story at HPU's Aloha Tower Marketplace campus in the Sunset Ballroom on Tuesday, April 23, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Layton was inducted into the Hall of Fame as the drummer for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. This will be his only scheduled appearance in Hawai'i.

Layton gained widespread recognition for his dynamic and powerful drumming style, playing a crucial role in shaping the sound of Vaughan's music. Together with Vaughan and bassist Tommy Shannon, Layton formed the core of Double Trouble, a trio that achieved significant success in the 1980s.

He has performed with numerous other artists and bands throughout his career, showcasing his versatility across various musical genres. His contributions to music have earned him a reputation as one of the finest drummers in the industry.

Layton is currently on tour with the Kenny Vaughan Shepherd Band and is the drummer for the Experience Hendrix tribute tour and on shows with Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, and Jimmie Vaughan. He will engage in a Q&A session with HPU Professor John Hart, fielding questions from the audience, and conducting a short master class on drumming.

The event is open to the public and sponsored by the HPU student activities fee committee, marketing and communications, residential honors, and the college of liberal arts.
