Federal Work-Study (FWS) Job Fair: Win-Win for Students and Colleges and Departments
The Career Development Center (CDC) hosted an FWS Job Fair on Thursday, Jan. 16, in MPR 3 at Aloha Tower Marketplace, bringing together students seeking employment and departments with open FWS positions. CDC advised students to bring their resumes to the job fair and to be ready for onsite interviews. Financial Aid and Human Resources staff were on hand to facilitate a speedy hiring process.
In the fall, HPU administered a survey to all incoming first-year students, and over half of the students indicated needing to immediately secure a part-time job to help defray their cost-of-living expenses. In the effort to help students with some of their financial challenges, the CDC offered an inaugural FWS Job Fair in the fall semester, resulting in 25 of the 41 students who attended the fair securing an on-campus job. This spring, 14 of the 39 student job-fair attendees got hired for a part-time campus position. If you know of a student who is eligible for FWS and is still seeking employment, please encourage them to check out the available positions on HPU’s career management platform, Handshake, here.
