Staff Council Presents Award to Head Athletic Trainer
The Staff Council Special Events and Recognition Committee, which sponsors the Ke Kaukahi awards, acknowledges individual staff each have a role, a responsibility, but collectively, success is reliant on staff working together, focusing on a shared mission and goals.
Kelly Wescott, Head Athletic Trainer, was named the Fall 2019 Ke Kaukahi individual recipient honoree. Wescott takes care of Athletics staff and 270 athletes from post-surgery to injury prevention to mental health and everything in between. She manages her duties with extreme diligence and care, working with medical providers throughout the state, and handling challenges head on striving to find solutions.
In December 2018, Wescott completed CPR and a heart AED on a basketball student-athlete. While the student was in the hospital over the winter holiday, she continually managed the professional and personal boundaries of the situation with amazing class, dedication, grace, and love.
An award nominator said, “She makes each and every person who comes into contact with her feel like thy are worthy, cared for and respected.”
