Nursing

Welcome to HPU Nursing

Helping people is at the heart of our profession. At HPU’s Nursing program, we help students develop the skills they need to become exceptional nurses and lifelong learners who are committed to humanitarian service. That begins in the rich, multicultural environment of Hawai‘i, where you’ll learn to think critically and engage with many diverse perspectives in the classroom and clinical settings. This hands-on knowledge prepares you to practice confidently in the ever-changing healthcare industry, so you can go forth and improve people’s lives anywhere in the world.

Simulation

We include simulations in our nursing curriculum as a teaching strategy that provides students interactive, practice based instruction. Through our state-of the-art Simulation Center along with our newly launched Human Simulation program, we provide students with a safe & realistic learning environment in which to improve patient safety & quality of care.

Integration

Our integrated curriculum provides students with a strong foundation for their nursing career. Student experiences include hands on laboratory, classroom, & clinical facility rotations. For their capstone, students integrate their cumulative knowledge & skills in a larger community context, working to improve the health & well-being of community people & organizations.

Community

We take pride in our dedicated faculty & highly-involved student body. Through initiatives such as our faculty mentorship program & collaborative efforts with other CHS departments, we strengthen our Nursing ‘ohana with a comprehensive education. Students continue to learn outside of class through community involvement & participation in our Student Nursing Association.

HPU Launches DNP Program

The Nursing Department is thrilled to announce its new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, available to students as of Fall 2017. The DNP program is designed for master’s-prepared nurses who are seeking a doctoral degree.

The program, which is approved by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WASC Senior), is a practice-based doctoral program that prepares expert clinicians to develop, implement, and evaluate nursing practice using research knowledge and methods to improve patient and population-based care. Students will learn from faculty reflecting an interdisciplinary approach and team focus of health care delivery. The curricula is aligned with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essential of Doctor in Nursing Practice Education (2011).
