Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program Representative Visits HPU

Submitted by Elizabeth Mulkey, Study Abroad Office

The CLS Program representative visited HPU on Monday, Sept. 9, to inform HPU students about this amazing opportunity to apply for a scholarship – sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. government – for a summer intensive language study in another country. The program includes intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains.

CLS is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. CLS plays an important role in preparing students for the 21st century's globalized workforce and increasing national competitiveness.

The representative hosted a table outside the student services center along with a CLS alum and visited several classes, including AL 3500 with Dr. Kenneth Cook. If you are interested in learning more about or applying for the Critical Language Scholarship, please contact or the CLS advisor on campus, Dr. Andrea Malji.
