HPU United Nations Club (UNC) to Attend the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in Xi’an, China

By Nicole Masulit, UN Club Secretary

On Friday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 23, the eight members of HPU’s UNC will be embarking on a trip to Xi’an, China, to participate in the 2018 NMUN Conference. Team members have worked diligently fundraising for this opportunity and training three hours a week since the start of the semester. At the NMUN, university students from around the world represent various countries in committees to discuss international issues relevant today.

The HPU UNC students will be representing the Delegations of Iraq and eSwatini (Swaziland) in various committees: the Economic and Social Council, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the General Assembly.

Pictured above, from left to right, is the delegation: Oeyvind Aanderaa, Sydney Lewark, Hunter Burrows, Haven McKay (Head Delegate & Club Secretary General), Madison Parrott (Club Fundraising Chair), Dominique Mueller, Jamilyn Chapman and Mark Etscheit (Club Treasurer). The UNC faculty advisor, Serge Marek, Ph.D., and graduate student, Kerry Campbell, will also be attending the conference.

Participation in the conference is an opportunity for students to develop skills in writing, public speaking, debate and diplomacy, while interacting with students from around the world!
