Graduate Valedictory Speaker Named for December Commencement Ceremony

Summer J.M. Nomura (Master of Arts in Communication) has been selected as the graduate valedictory speaker for HPU’s 87th commencement ceremony set for Thursday, December 15, at 5 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Arena. The valedictory speaker is an outstanding student who is chosen to represent the University's on-campus graduate degree programs.
Nomura is a native of Honolulu, Hawai’i. Her desire to pursue higher education did not emerge until 2009, when she began her advanced individual training as a medical laboratory specialist in the U.S. Army. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from HPU in 2015. Her academic interests are centered around how humans utilize language and other tools to shape and communicate their numerous identities. Throughout her time at HPU, Nomura was an active member in the Alpha Chi Honor Society and previously served as the assistant coach for HPU’s debate team. Outside of academia, she enjoys playing, composing, and listening to music, writing, eating delicious food, and traveling. She especially loves to do these activities with her wife, Camille.
