Hawaii Pacific University’s Sea Warriors are high performers. For the 2011-12 school year, half of the sports teams proceeded to either regional or national championships including the Women's Softball team that won the national championships. As a member of the National Collegiate Association (NCAA) Division II for intercollegiate sports, HPU has a full set of men’s and women’s sports and can provide scholarships to its student athletes. (NCAA organizes the athletic programs/competitions of its members and only allows Division I and II to offer scholarships; Division III cannot). HPU plays in the NCAA’s Pacific West Conference which is made up of nine teams: Hawai‘i Pacific University, Academy of Art University, Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i, Chaminade University, Dixie State College, Dominican University of California, Grand Canyon University, Notre Dame de Namur, and University of Hawai‘i-Hilo. HPU must perform at the top of its conference in order to proceed to regional championships. HPU must perform well within the three conferences in the Western Region in order to proceed to the national championships.
HPU has a variety of competitive men’s and women’s sports teams. HPU’s men’s athletic programs are baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, and tennis. Women's athletic programs at HPU include basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball. For the 2011-12 school year, every team either proceeded to a post season regional competition and/or had individual members who were recognized at the conference level by being given the title of All-Conference team member. Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis, and Women’s Softball proceeded all the way to the National Championships this year with Women's Softball winning the national title. Men’s Baseball, Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Basketball, and Women’s Cross Country participated in regional championships. For Women’s Basketball, HPU Coach Jeff Harada was named PacWest Coach of the Year. For more information about the Sea Warriors, click here.
