The TIM Major
Hawai'i Pacific University's Travel Industry Management (TIM) major is one of the most comprehensive tourism majors in the Pacific. The sequence of hospitality undergraduate and graduate level courses provides students with a diverse and focused learning experience that develop them as travel industry professionals. The courses at both levels emphasize helping students apply theoretical concepts on solving real life problems. Skills in critical thinking and problem solving are some of the tools used in the TIM major's educational approach.
The major offers an extensive career planning and placement service in helping students prepare for their career. Students pursuing the TIM major in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) degree program must complete 600 hours of work experience. This experience is gained through the University's cooperative education and internship program. Students have the opportunity to gain invaluable insights and experiences toward developing and charting their future careers through this mandatory requirement.

Few places in the world are better suited to study the hospitality industry than Hawai'i, one of the world's greatest tourist destinations. By 2010, tourism in Hawai'i is expected to show steady growth, at an average rate of 2.9% per year. With an inventory of over 70,000 hotel rooms, Hawai'i is a living laboratory of the travel field, offering opportunities in all facets of this dynamic, competitive industry.
Hawai'i Pacific University plays an active role in Hawai'i's hospitality and travel business and draws upon the following from this unique community: resources and guest lecturers, advisory council members, and student field experiences as part of a genuine partnership approach to travel education.
The following are the overall Program Objectives that are designed to prepare students in the TIM program to be the travel industry managers of the future.

- Process flow-connectivity between different systems and between the parts of an individual system
