Student Government Association

Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the student governing body of Hawaii Pacific University that seeks to promote the general welfare of HPU students. The platform that SGA provides to students to voice their concerns and influence campus policies is critcal in ensuring that their interests and ideas are represented in University decision-making processes.

There are three branches of government in SGA. The executive branch includes the President, who serves as the chief representative and students’ advocate. The Student Senate serves as the legislative branch of SGA, representing constituents and promoting the general welfare of the student body. Last but not least, the Student Judicial Council is the judicial branch and therefore responsible for resolving electoral and constitutional disputes. SGA is composed of around thirty (30) positions, and students serving in most SGA positions are eligible to receive a scholarship.

Every registered HPU student taking at least one credit is a constituent of SGA. All students are encouraged to attend the weekly SGA meeting and to voice their comments and concerns to their student respresentatives. Equally as important are the Spring and Fall SGA elections, which students are strongly encouraged to vote in. Students, including incoming students, can also run for an SGA office, creating an outstanding opportunity to develop leadership and teamwork skills while giving back to the HPU community.

Although the Spring 2024 regular elections have already concluded, special elections to fill vacancies in the Student Senate will be held at the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester. Follow SGA on Instagram at @hpu_sga to stay updated, and keep an eye out for the candidate application form in early Fall!
