The Japanese Association at Hawai‘i Pacific University raised more than $5,700 for victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami that took place Friday, March 11.
The association held an emergency fundraiser on Fort Street Mall in downtown Honolulu March 14 – 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The money is being donated to the Japanese Red Cross this week.
Song-fee Choa, president of the association, said she was appreciative to see people show concern for HPU students and their families in Japan. About 120 Japanese nationals are enrolled at HPU. The University has made counselors available to help students cope with the tragedy.
