Meet Dr. Peter Britos
Professor of Multimedia and Communication
Dr. Peter Britos holds an M.F.A in Screenwriting and a Ph.D. in Critical Studies from the School of Cinematic Arts at USC. His passion for fine arts serves as the perfect background for his courses in media studies, media criticism, and global media studies at HPU.
Dr. Britos is the recipient of various academic and industry awards including the FINE Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon for gigapixel photography, the Walt Disney-Hollywood Pictures Fellowship Writers Award, the inaugural USC-CNTV Postdoctoral Fellowship in Critical Studies, the CNTV Advanced Screenwriting Analysis Scholarship and the USC All-University Predoctoral Merit Fellowship.
His professional career includes work at CBS Television City where he wrote and produced segments for numerous famous artists and celebrities like Quincy Jones, Hilary Swank, and Ice Cube, among many others. Britos was also the Director and Chief Academic Officer of the UH Academy for Creative Media (ACM), where he wrote the ACMs establishing documents and taught its inaugural courses. In addition, he served as a Writer-Consultant at USC's Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) in Marina del Rey. In Burbank, he was the Executive Vice President of Production and Development at the Clear Channel Communications hub. At Hawaii's KHNL-KFVE, he was the broadcast industry's first Media Manager at the first all-digital newsroom in the world. He was also the Gallery Director for the Hawai'i State Art Museum (HiSAM), a division of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
Dr. Britos’ has also taught at USC-CA, the University of Hawaii, the UC Santa Barbara Film Studies Department, the UH Department of Information & Computer Sciences, UH Academy for Creative Media, the UH School of Communications and the UH Department of English.
Away from the camera and the classroom, Dr. Britos shines as a world-class athlete. Once ranked as a professional player on the International Racquetball Circuit, Dr. Britos enjoys a fast paced lifestyle. His athleticism extends to tennis, golf, bodysurfing and basketball. Dr. Britos is a renowned coach and mentor for juniors and professionals in a number of sports including tennis, racquetball, squash, golf, basketball, soccer and bodysurfing.
