Traveling to HPU
New Student Orientation is a week-long program in the Fall semester for new students, parents, and family members. During Spring semester, a one day orientation is offered. From academic information sessions to activities to get you acquainted with the island of Oahu, the program is educational and fun. Yes. New full-time undergraduate freshman, transfer and visiting students are required to attend fall or spring orientation. A one-time $120.00 orientation; fee will be charged to student accounts; $50.00 for spring orientation.;

Students can register online through HPU Pipeline. Log onto HPU Pipeline. Click on the New Student tab. Orientation registration is located in the center of the page. After registering, you should receive a confirmation email to your my.hpu.edu account.
Your HPU Pipeline login can be found in your Acceptance Packet. Students must use their HPU email and HPU ID number with the @ to register. Please contact Admissions if you have not received them.

Parents are welcome to attend orientation, but are not required. You may bring one guest for free with each student registration, and each additional guest is $25.00. Families will have a separate orientation track from their students. Family Orientation is only on Tuesday and Wednesday, whereas orientation for students runs through Thursday afternoon. -back to top-
The island of O‘ahu offers many different living environments – from the fast-paced city lifestyle of Honolulu (close to the Downtown Campus) to the quiet beach town of Kailua (near the Hawaii Loa Campus). Although the University does not endorse or sponsor any particular apartments or landlords, the University does maintain current listings of available apartments, houses, and private rooms for students to lease. Current postings are also available on HPU Pipeline E-Ads. A consolidated list of real estate management companies is available on the HPU website at www.hpu.edu/housing. Students arriving on a limited budget who have not found a permanent home for the school year might consider a hostel or the local YMCA for a short-term stay.

At this time, we do not provide housing for parents. Our residence halls are open for students to move directly into their fall homes. Parents and families attending orientation have a wide variety of needs and length of stay, so we have a specific room blocking. A wide range of hotel options exist for students and families to consider.
When selecting your accommodations, it may be helpful to know that our orientation shuttle will pick-up at the corner of Kuhio Ave. and Nohonani St. in Waikiki. There are many hotel location in walking distance of this intersection. -back to top-

Students traveling to HPU from outside Hawai'i should fly into Honolulu International Airport (HNL). HPU has negotiated a reasonable rate for students, staff and faculty to use VIP Transportation to/from Waikiki, Downtown campus or Hawaii Loa campus. Please contact VIP Transportation directly at 808-836-0317. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More information is available on the HPU Airport Shuttle Service page.
When you arrive may depend on your housing arrangements and orientation. The Hawaii Loa Residence Halls and Waterfront Lofts open on Monday, August 22, 2016 Fall New Student Orientation begins on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
Many students choose to find their own apartments and off-campus housing either before they arrive in Hawai'i, or after they arrive and have had a chance to become familiar with the local environment. Some students prefer to arrive in Honolulu two to three weeks before classes start. For international students, visa regulations allow you to enter the USA up to 30 days before the first day of classes (the reporting date is shown on your I-20). Other students arrive the week before classes for orientation, having already signed a lease or residence hall contract. -back to top-
