Harm Jan Steenhuis, Ph.D.
Studying the transfer of production technology to an aircraft manufacturing company in Romania and developing an export plan for an Indian company producing transformers, are just two of the global research and business experiences of Professor of International Business Harm-Jan Steenhuis, Ph.D.
While at universities in the U.S. and the Netherlands, Steenhuis became convinced that his job as a professor is to teach students to analyze competitiveness and find opportunities by learning critical thinking skills.
The emphasis of project-based learning in the College of Business was one of the factors, which drew him to HPU.
“Education is not just theories and memorizing terms. You need that business literacy, but it’s not our end goal,” Steenhuis said. “With projectbased learning, you’re going to get students who can think critically and be profession-ready, global leaders.”
Equally important to learning in Steenhuis’ classes is the dynamics of a diverse HPU student population. His students — many of whom come from around the world — “can come in with examples from their own countries,” providing different perspectives. Ultimately, the students learn from each other.
