The Laulima Society leverages the support of Hawai‘i Pacific University’s most generous donors for the greatest impact.
The Native Hawaiian value of laulima – many hands working together toward a common outcome – is intrinsic to island culture. In the days of old Hawai‘i, a group formed a line in the ocean and held a rope with leaves in the water. Working as one, they herded the fish towards the shore and then slowly formed a circle to trap the fish. As a single person falling out-of-sync could lead to fish escaping, the entire group’s success depended on helping each member succeed. Also known as a hukilau, the practice of cooperation and teamwork continues as a living tradition into the present day.
The Laulima Society, Hawai‘i Pacific University’s leadership giving society, recognizes the collective impact of donors – those who commit $1,000 or more to Hawai‘i Pacific annually. Hawai‘i Pacific’s progress is made possible through your leadership and generosity.
