Two of the top experts in the region on marine strandings will be on island today to do a necropsy on the beached whale found at Micro Beach on Tuesday.

Dr. Kristie West, a cetacean scientist and professor at the Hawaii Pacific University, and David Schofield, regional stranding response coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, were scheduled to arrive last night, according to Ken Kramer, acting president of the Asia Pacific Academy of Science, Education and Environmental Management.
Preliminary results of the necropsy, as well as general information about marine strandings, will be discussed in a presentation tomorrow, Friday, at 6:30pm at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center.
APASEEM, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, will host the presentation-its 71st presentation so far, Kramer said.
The beached whale was put down at past 3pm on Tuesday, several hours after it was found. Another whale, a dead one, was found Monday on the back reef area outside Oleai Beach Bar & Grill.
Kramer said only Schofield will speak at the APASEEM presentation.
