Department of Communication
At HPU we provide multiple pathways for learning and mastering contemporary communication practices, history and theory. For instance, if you are interested in recording history for the next generation the undergraduate degree in journalism provides a gateway to this fast-changing industry, whether it is in print, broadcast, or online journalism.
Bachelor degrees are also offered in Advertising and Public Relations (AD-PR), Communication, and Multimedia. The AD-PR Program features a Strategic Communication focus and the Multimedia Program features a hands-on production ethos that prepares the student to be a versatile producer of media across multiple platforms.
For postbaccalaureate students and professionals, our MACOM Program provides a rich and relevant graduate experience in international communications, global media studies, communication theory, and applied communications.
If you desire a flexible degree program that will prepare you for careers in media, entertainment, or politics (to name a few options), a degree in communication at HPU is an excellent solution. With classes in media strategies, creativity, copyright, public relations, consumer behavior, persuasion, film criticism, web design, cinematic and documentary production, you can pursue almost any direction of scholarly inquiry you choose.
Overall, the diversity and flexibility of programs, balance of theory and practice, use of technology, individual attention, experienced faculty and Pacific Rim location make HPU the ideal choice for motivated students and professionals.
Living and learning in Hawai'i is a stimulating experience. Honolulu is a major hub of activity for business, education, government, the arts, the leisure industries, sports, and health services. These sectors provide students with a variety of local and transnational opportunities to conduct research, network with professionals, and experience on-the-job training.
Furthermore, the Downtown Honolulu and Windward Hawai'i Loa locations provide easy access to the social and cultural milieu of our Oceanic metropolis. And for outdoor rigor, the verdant terrain of the Ko'olau Mountains and the energy of Oahu beaches are just minutes away.
At HPU Department of Communication, students find a dynamic, creative environment, where academic courses integrate theory and practice, and talented faculty bring relevant expertise and professional backgrounds to bear in the classroom.
We look forward to working with you to achieve your academic and professional goals.
