Hawaii Pacific University • Paul & Vi Loo Theatre
2015 - 2016 Season

Hawai‘i Pacific University Theatre strives to include any student with the desire and interest to be involved. We hold two performances each semester: a Mid-Semester Theatre Showcase and a Mainstage Theatre Production, near the end of the semester.

Our Mid-Semester Theatre Showcase features the talents of the students enrolled in acting, performance, and directing classes.

The Mainstage Theatre Production will have open auditions, to which any interested students are encouraged to attend.

One of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, Much Ado About Nothing opens with Don Pedro, Prince of Aragon, and his entourage (Benedick, Claudio, and bastard brother Don John, a defeated adversary, as well as others) returning from battle to lodge at the home of Leonato, governor of Messina. From there, the play focuses on the bringing together of two couples: Claudio and Leonato’s daughter, Hero, and Benedick and Leonato’s niece, Beatrice. Meanwhile, the villain Don John takes his revenge by breaking apart Claudio and Hero’s marriage via deception and slander. Hero falls dead at the altar. But is she really dead?

Next Fall

by Geoffrey Nauffts
directed by Joshua Aiu

"Next Fall" takes a witty and introspective look at faith, commitment, and the burdens of love. While focusing on a five year relationship between Adam and Luke, "Next Fall" explores the balance surrounding modern ethics and beliefs. This compelling new play asks audiences to examine what it means "to believe", and the price of our convictions.

Directed by HPU theatre student Josh Aiu, “Next Fall” is the first student directed mainstage production in HPU’s history. In addition to having a student director, the cast is drawn entirely from HPU acting students.
